Stamped Name Ring

from 42.00

To start off this design, I began by sawing out the the name plate from a thick sheet of metal. I hand-filed the edges to smooth and round them out. I, then, torch-fired the piece to soften the metal and be able to stamp the name deeply and clearly. Once I softened the metal I, individually, hand-stamped each letter, while trying to keep a steady hand to avoid double-stamping a letter. For the ring shank, I cut out a thick piece of metal wire, according to the desired ring size. I hand-filed both ends of the wire so that they fit, flushly, together and soldered the ring closed. Then, I hammered the ring shank against a steel mandrel in order to shape it, texture it, and bring the ring to the desired size. Afterwards, I continued with the name plate by hammering it against a steel mandrel to give it a slight curve. This helps to avoid any gap between the name plate and the ring shank, once soldered together. When I accomplished the same curvature on
both pieces, I soldered them together, while assuring that the name plate was aligned with the ring shank. In the final step, I applied a darkening solution to blacken the hand-stamped name. During this process, I blackened the entire piece so that the solution seeps into every nook and cranny. I, then, thoroughly hand-polished the ring, making sure to leave any crevices untouched so that the now-darkened details stand out against the high-polished finish. I tumbled the piece, for a substantial amount of time, until the perfect amount of strength and additional shine was reached.

Although it is a lengthy and messy process, the beautiful results
makes it all worthwhile.

This design lends itself to many possibilities. It can be stamped
with any custom name, word, initials, or even date that you desire. However, keep in mind that space is limited, given that the name plate cannot exceed the length posted. The reason for this is because, anything longer, will go beyond the topmost part of the ring and the stamped design will not be entirely exposed.
