Pyramid Ring

from 80.00

For this design, I started out by measuring and cutting a piece of metal to make the setting for the pyramid-style, glass stone. Once I formed it and made sure it, snugly, fit around the stone, I soldered it closed and then soldered this setting onto a thicker piece of metal, which would be the base plate for the ring but, of course, not before stamping the back with my maker’s stamp. I then, sawed off the excess metal from the base plate and hand-filed the area where the base plate and the setting met to make it smooth and seamless. To give the setting a unique touch, I cut the all four corners of the setting to taper the edges against the stone once it was ready to be set.

For the ring shank, I hand-sawed a thick piece of metal, according to the desired ring size. cI hand-stamped the dotted design all throughout the length of the metal. Once done with the stamping, I hand-filed both ends of the metal so that they fit, flushly, together and soldered the ring closed. Then, I hammered the ring shank against a steel mandrel in order to shape it. I soldered the ring shank to the back plate, while assuring that it was centered. I tumbled the piece, for a substantial amount of time, until the perfect amount of strength and additional shine was reached. In the next step, I applied a darkening solution to blacken the dotted design on the ring shank and bring out its unique beauty. During this process, I blackened the entire piece so that the solution seeps into every nook and cranny. I, then, thoroughly hand-polished the ring, making sure to leave any crevices untouched so that the newly-darkened details stood out against the high-polished finish of the embellishments. Finally, I inserted the stone into its setting and, carefully, molded the metal tightly around the stone in order to secure it in place.

Although it is a lengthy and messy process, the beautiful results makes it all worthwhile. As seen in the photos, the regal look of this ring will make ‘it' and ‘you’ the center of attention.
