For this design, I began by sawing out the shape from a thick piece of sheet metal and stamped the back of it with my maker’s mark. I hand-filed the edge to smooth out the circle shape. I measured and cut a piece of thick wire, shaped it into a circle that perfectly sits on top of the circle’s edge, and soldered it closed as well as onto the circle metal. I, then, cut, filed, and shaped wire for the letter. I, carefully, placed and soldered the little pieces onto the thick sheet of metal, while assuring they stayed in place during the 'slippery' soldering process. I added beautiful color to this piece by, evenly, distributing fine powdered glass enamel and carefully uncovering the letter. I, then, torch-fired it in order to fuse it to the pendant. When done with the front of the pendant, I cut, filed, and shaped a bail, as well as a small ring, soldered the bail to the back of the pendant, and the small ring through the bail. Once the soldering was complete, I hand-polished the piece, paying special attention to the letter. I made sure to bring it to a high-polish so that it perfectly stood out from the enamel. Finally, I attached the pendant to a fine chain that I finished off with a clasp, which I soldered closed, and added a dainty logo tag to.
Although it is a lengthy and messy process, the beautiful results makes it all worthwhile. As seen in the photos, this pendant might me small, but it packs a punch with its pretty color.
